The Four of Clubs were formed in 1968 as a harmony group. There were Billy Steele (vocals) George Lamb (Keyboards) Ronnie Bird (Bass guitar) and Joe Costin on drums.
Billy had previously been with Billy Steele and The Strollers and Joe Costin had been with The Renegades.
The Four of Clubs were together and succesful for just over six years doing the club circuit and travelling as far away as Sunderland.
They were a group of guys who got on well and really enjoyed their time with the band. They were the only group to pass the audition for Opportunity Knocks that were held at the technical college at Carlisle but were never called upon to do the show.
Billy still is singing / Ronnie lives in Doncaster / George runs a Pub in Maryport called the Squash Club and Joe is of course a popular DJ on Radio Cumbria.
