The Empress Rhythm Aces

The Empress Rhythm Aces played in the Empress ballroom in Whitehaven three or four nights a week from the early forties to the mid sixties when the local groups took over, as happened in most of the other ballrooms.

The personnel in the above photo are - Tim Belford on piano, Les Rimmer on sax and clarinet, Don Southern on sax and clarinet, Frankie Devine on sax and clarinet, Harry Walker on drums, Jack Tronkin on trumpet, Fred Huntress on trumpet and Charlie Wright on bass.

Others who played in the band but are not on the photograph included - Jim Tonkin, Ron Dixon, Tommy Geen, John MacNamara, Fred Davidson amongst others.

Tim Belford who provided this information describes himself as 85 years young and is still playing in various jazz groups.
