Black on Gold

Black on Gold were a man and wife duo from Silloth in Cumbria. Rick and Bev started performing in 1981, Rick playing guitar, Bev on keyboards and both on vocals, doing a mixture of 60's and country music in the local pubs and clubs.

Over the years they had summer seasons at the Solway Lido Holiday Camp and played on the Stranraer to Larne ferry. In 1987 they went over to Spain for 3 years, playing in the English bars and time share complexes on the Costa del Sol.

On coming back to England they concentrated more on country music, touring Scotland, Yorkshire and Cornwall.

Disaster struck in 1994 when they had their van and equipment stolen. It was never recovered. A good friend and fellow musician, Colin Ainsworth, organised two charity do's for them and David Nicholson from Whitehaven organised a third. With the help of Brian Holmes from Northern Sounds shop in Workington they were able to continue working without losing a gig.

Black on Gold continued playing till 2000 when Rick was seriously ill with peritinitis and they were off the road for months. They decided to call it a day and are now happily retired in Silloth, where they enjoy golfing, gardening and spending more time with their five grandchildren.

Rick and Bev still stay in touch with the many friends they made over their years of entertaining.
